My brother and I started this Dinah’s Legacy project together. He accompanied me on the journey and did a lot of research in preparation for this project.
I relied on him so much. He served as my advisor, sounding board, encourager, and motivator, and all-around major cheerleader.
We were very close and he was the first born son to my parents union. The ultimate overachiever. His ascent to one of the highest positions in the City of Mobile was not surprising. The evidence of his role for the city was demonstrated by his corner office in the City-County Complex with a striking view of the Mobile River. To say I was proud of him is an understatement.
After I finished my doctorate, he would always introduce me that way. It felt kind of weird at times but then I got used to it. Whenever we talked on the phone, he would call me “Dr. A.” So my personal way of honoring and remembering him is to now to refer to myself in this way. Even as I write this, I think about him calling me Dr. A and I smile.
The Dinah’s Legacy project is dedicate to his memory and the love he had for family and history.
Love and miss you Big Brother.
